Ex Army Ranger with PTSD and a restraining order kills his wife and a kid who was in the yard of the neighboring yard.

Hate to post it but this one seemed to have gone on for quite some time. Military needs to keep closer tabs on the vets diagnosed with PTSD.

Unless the guy was active duty, how does the military get involved? Inquiring minds want to know.

I just meant I hope the guy got the help that was diagnosed with his PTSD. Obviously, once he’s discharged the military is done with him.

Interesting headline. It implies they were together when killed but you have to read the article to see the kid was an innocent bystander.

Typical salacious media scum

Meat the Press is a song from a 1984 album by Christian artist Steve Taylor. It perfectly describes the lamestream media today.

I recommend looking into how false domestic abuse accusations destroy lives of innocent men. Let just say that this man might have been falsely accused and was thrown out of his home, lost access to his family, fired from his job, lost his security clearance and any chance of a future with the military/government, lost his good standing in the community. He may have decided that he had nothing left to lose. I’m not making excuses for a real abuser, but society tends to immediately believe that women are truthful when accusing men of abuse. There are finally stories coming out of abusive women who maliciously seek prosecution of their husbands. PTSD doesn’t make everyone violent, but it has been used as an excuse by some for violence. Many will isolate themselves and avoid any confrontation.

I just recommend a little skepticism when it comes to cases like this. There is often more to the story.

The VA offers treatment for PTSD. Was the man being treated by the VA?

I agree. I didn’t even blame him. All I said is that the military needs to keep better track of vets with PTSD.

I would be willing to bet that what you posited was EXACTLY what happened. He had nothing to lose.

I hope I didn’t come across as attacking you. I apologize if it seemed that way. It is horrible that two people died and it he will now pay for his actions.

As others have pointed out, there are numerous programs for soldiers with any issues like PTSD. Both on active duty and through the VA. Hopefully, anyone who needs mental health care will seek it before resorting to decisions that hurt themselves and others.

Most of what people believe about PTSD is BS, but this unpopular opinion flies in the face of an entire industry of whiners, grifters and legions of caregivers. Claims of PTSD lend a sanctified excuse for laziness and bad behavior that society otherwise frowns upon. It has been my experience that those with the most and worst close combat experience have adapted well to life after service, and that most who claim PTSD victimhood have little or no actual combat experience. There are exceptions, but not enough real cases to support the whole enabling industry that we see today.

I have known, led and fought beside many brave men, but only a few were true heroes. But Americans no longer understand the difference between heroism, honorable service and victimhood, so we now declare everyone to be a hero. We have become a nation of pussies.

I don’t know. The article is not well written. But even if he was treated by the VA, the VA is not the military. My question for the OP is, what can the military do?

Agreed on the need for skepticism. Men are destroyed by the gynocentric law in domestic disputes on nothing more than an accusation from the woman.

There is merit to this opinion. I have talked to many Vets from many wars who have seen sh*t that is pure horror and go on with life. Most do get proper help and can cope. Those who fall through the "net" are the problem to themselves and society. The PTSD label is broad brushed too far. Mental illness can easily have started before military service and that service was a trigger or PTSD is an easy excuse to slaughter people. It simply could be the man snapped and military past has zero mitigation.

Like the SSI clients who pretend to be disabled, but are known to be doing activities more strenuous than work. The problem is that you'd need more gub'mint employees to keep track of them, catch them and jail them. And more gub'mint employees is never a GOOD thing.

Geez, once you're out of the military the line blurs between the VA and the military. Are we really going to pick nits between which is the appropriate organization to blame?

Agree but you know how the media loves to jump on the PTSD another excuse to use for their anti armed forces agenda.
But they will praise the democrats for gutting it.

“Army Ranger”—-probably means he was never a Ranger and was kicked out of the military for drug use. These losers always claim that they were special forces when they go to court.

Funny you should say that. Long ago I was attached to Walter Reed for a few months while my wife was undergoing meds. During our Grenada operation, a guy with a chest full of ribbons was in the dayroom watching the news with a bunch of us. He was going on and on about who was doing what, why they were doing it, etc.

Turned out, he was there for a psych eval and was pretty much making stuff up as he was watching :)
