The art of John William Waterhouse to an aria from Berlioz' Romeo and Juliet sung by Marianne Crebassa. Daniele Gatti is conducting the National Orchestra of France.
Wikipedia: John William Waterhouse RA (6 April 1849 10 February 1917) was an English painter known for working first in the Academic style and for then embracing the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood's style and subject matter. His artworks were known for their depictions of women from both ancient Greek mythology and Arthurian legend.

but using a similar subject material to Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836-1912)

I do love this period of art.
And all these years I thought I was the only FReeper who likes Waterhouse. I currently have his painting “The Magic Circle” as my laptop screensaver. Thanks for posting!
By the Penhaligon’s Scented Poetry Treasury series.
Good poetry, good art.
Thank you. Stunning with haunting music.
PING to pre-raphaelite painter, John William Waterhouse
Lovely! :-)
Idiot that I am, I never even noticed that she was drawing a circle. What I was noticing was the Hamlet crows on the skull and the fact that Waterhouse seems fascinated with birds, mostly pigeons.
Sincere thanks. I was worried how an aria would go over, but romantic music, romantic art - seemed a natural.

I’m partial to John Everett Millais for a pre-Raphaelite. I think I was in love with the Farmer’s Daughter and the brunette girl in “Autumn Leaves.” Something about a forlorn damsel that hits at the Galahad in me.
I like Berlioz, but I have not explored that particular opera.
Maybe it’s time. :-)
Autumn Leaves
Beautiful. Heres one of my favorite painters https://youtu.be/4-m92239EE8
He’s one of my favorites, too. I have two videos to his work.

Ahhh....the crows/ravens on the back edge of the boiling cauldron bring back memories of the South Korean Olympics Dove Fry opening ceremony.
Kidding aside, nice post. Thank you.
Thank you. Never heard this Aria before. Now I have to get the entire opera.
You’re funny! My high school choral nun trained in Rome and grew to absolutely HATE pigeons. I used to love seeing them in Chicago’s Grant Park.
Thanks, Covenantor. Much appreciated.
Very nice.
I’m not much into opera, but there are two that take me over. Expect some day to see something from Berlioz’ Damnation of Faust.
