Here at home, there are rising concerns about the Wuhan coronavirus. Philadelphia officials are hoping to give residents, as well as restaurants and businesses, a boost of confidence and support.
“We have confidence that everybody’s safe coming to Chinatown,” Mayor Jim Kenney said.
As a major show of support for residents and businesses in Chinatown, Kenney and other city officials had lunch at the Ocean Harbor Restaurant on Thursday afternoon.

I had no idea Philly had a Chinatown.

So far, no news about the mayor being infected. I’m not convinced that Chinatowns anywhere are a focus of the virus. Boris Johnson, presumably using MI-6 sources, both sigint and humint, postulates that the Chinese death toll is 40x the published numbers. That would bring it to the 120K level. That’s still 1/2 the per capita number in Italy so far. And Italy’s daily deaths are still in the 800 range. The really interesting aspect is that Chinese restaurants were boycotted by Orientals, but non-Orientals continued showing up, and no particular cluster of people having been infected through restaurant visits of any kind has been documented.
No, not at all.
There’s a Mexican part of St Paul. It’s across the river from downtown St Paul. It’s been there for decades.
But no, there’s not a Chinatown here.
My suspicion is that the key mode of transmission is gatherings where people are jammed practically shoulder-to-shoulder.
Would it be bad to hope this mayor is infected?

Yes, the virus is another proud Chinese immigrant. Chinese immigrants have contributed in so many ways to American society. Kung Flu is like the martial art. The latter is an ancient system of exercise to keep people healthy and able to defend themselves, even killing people with just a touch in the right spot. Kung Flu is an even more ancient system of compromising immune systems and killing people. Those poor microbes come with nothing, not even the clothes on their back, just a host to use and discard. Why doesn’t Emma Lazarus’ poem apply to microbes? Racism, that’s why!

What’s the over/under on the number of days before we learn the mayor has the virus?
They waited too long to make it, and we never got the third movie. If Polanski hadn’t effed up with that girl, he could’ve kept on making quality films here. “Jakes” was missing the Polanski touch and lacked for the sinister, oppressive atmosphere of the first (and no John Huston).

When he threw his hat into the 2020 ring, Biden came out swinging. He mocked President Donald Trump’s position on China at a campaign rally.
BIDEN: “China is going to eat our lunch? Come on, man...they can’t even figure out how to deal with the fact that they have this great division between the China Sea and the mountains in the east, I mean in the west.”
Biden continued “they can’t figure out how they’re going to deal with the corruption that exists within the system. I mean, you know, they’re not bad folks, folks. But guess what, they’re not, they’re not competition for us.”
Biden’s suck-up to Communist Chinese leaders was outrageous: “Chinese leaders are good folks.” Yet, we know those same Chinese leaders are committing crimes against humanity. Locking up 1.1, maybe 3 million Uighurs, in concentration camp-like facilities where a not insubstantial number of them are dying.

Doesn’t mean he’s not a threat, doesn’t mean they’re not a threat.”
