He did not. He made it illegal for doctors to prescribe it off-book. Because doctors were prescribing it to their family and friends who didn’t even have the disease, and depleting the stocks so that people actively ON the drugs couldn’t get them.
His order explicitly allows prescriptions if you are IN THE HOSPITAL, which is where right now we need to focus. Later on, it may be the case we all will go on a 3-month low-dose of this because it seems to prevent picking up a serious case of COVID, but THAT will require some real testing.
In the meantime, we want to have enough for the Lupus patients, and for people in hospitals, and for the trials.
OK, that makes more sense. As long as the docs can also use it themselves if they’re infected, that doesn’t seem to be as much of a problem as it’s made out to be. I still think they should be able to use it as prophylaxis, however, maybe under strict guidelines to prevent hoarding, since they’re on the front lines.
