What makes it a felony theft? Is it written into the law that more than 50 toilet paper rolls shall constitute this as a felony! :P

That was my question, too.

It’s got to be a misdemeanor because 66 rolls can’t possibly reach felony levels.

Strange.

Value in $?

Went to a box store this morning and they had all the TP you want, just a sign saying no more than two packages (of 12 rolls).

“Felony theft is committed when the value of the stolen property exceeds $1000. Regardless of the value of the item”

Standard Definition

Now you know why you can’t trust newsweek.

What makes it a felony theft?

It's not the value; it's the victim:

Hernandezcinto was charged with theft from a public lodging facility, a third degree felony.

He should have stuck to pilfering Walmarts.
