It has the same mortality rate as the measles, and less than 1/3 the infection rate (r0). Measles killed 140,000 in 2018 (and that is WITH a known inoculation shot existing, it still kills many). Nobody has shut down anything ever for the measles. A grand total of 5 US schools were shut down in 2019 for measles, the longest for 3 days, despite a modern record of 1282 US cases reported in 2019.
Covid-19 is still under 50 US deaths. I will continue to dismiss it until it kills an American under 50, AND claims more than 1000 lives here... which is when Obama called an emergency for H1N1.
At 2.7%, Covid-19 has a MUCH lower mortality rate than the other famous Coronaviruses, MERS (37%) and SARS (11%).
How is it not like the flu except it is more contagious? The overwhelming amount of people who catch it recover from it.
This virus may go away within a few weeks, but the Democrats and LSM will continue to push it...
If you look at the Chinese data, when people finally were tested, the majority of them said they had been sick for at least two weeks. So, you may be looking at a month or more for a window.
This is a good technique to follow always.
When I was a medical student, my father-in-law, a practicing physician, gave me this tip: Develop the habit of having your hand "tingle" when you have touched something contaminated or potentially contaminated. It will continue to tingle, and you will not touch anything with it, until you wash it, even though you might forget what you touched.
Also working in a hospital, I learned the advisability of frequent hand washing with soap.
One day in medical school, the professor did this: He dusted each student's hands with a certain powder and told us not to touch ourselves. Then after class, he came around with an ultraviolet light. The powder was fluorescent. It revealed where the medical students had touched. Despite having been told not to touch themselves, every one of us had fluorescent powder around the nose, mouth, and genitals. It is very difficult not to touch these areas; however I have found that the "tingle" of the contaminated hand can prevent it.
Another thing (I hate to get personal, but I do want to make the point): It is a good habit to shower after every defecation whenever possible. It doesn't take long. There is a shower near the toilet in almost every American home. Once the habit's formed, it's easy to maintain.

Lets dissect what you have said: Your BIL has it — how long, is he tested, or is this a guess on your behalf. Recalling that in South Korea, which our numbers are tracking, only 4% of tests are positive meaning that 96% of illness are other respiratory diseases.
How long as he had it? It sounds like he is not lying on a vent in the ICU — as I assume you would have said that. The assumption that he apparently has it is exactly what is driving the panic. I routinely test my patient for Influenza A/B, rhinovirus, parainfluenza, and multiple other infectious respiratory disease and numerous of those turn positive and the clinical course is exactly the same. Why this panic? Why now? What is different? No one can answer that question.
I’m past 60. If I die, I die. I’m more likely to die from a car crash than from this damn virus. I spent too many years strapping into an ejection seat to panic now.
If someone believes they are at high risk and needs to be more careful, have at it. Entirely reasonable for the really old and/or those with genuine lung or heart issues.
But shutting down the country? The only reason I accept it at all is that I trust Trump’s judgment. But....I think we’re going nuts over a genuine but acceptable danger.
Someone needs to explain how China with over a billion people, where this started in about November, has had a grand total of 80,000 cases (64,000 now recovered) and about 3,000 deaths. And their cases are way down now.
But we are supposed to have 500,000 cases?
How does that work?
60 million Americans infected, hundreds of thousands hospitalized, 20,000 die, or another Swine Flu. The only difference this time, economic and societal meltdown.
And also what is on our side is that with the recent coming of day light savings time and in a few days spring,the warmer weather will help to if not rid it, reduce this virus.
This is very misleading — there is radiographic evidence of lung damage with and pneumonia, so pedal this panic elsewhere.
Consider that the Pentagon has halted all domestic travel of service members, employees, and servicemember families. That should give folks some pause and considering what they should do. Unless you don’t trust the military to protect its own. The White House is now testing everybody for temperature, which is an early step that the Chinese and others did, we seem to be in a catch-up mode, so when, and if, it hits, we’re going to be behind the curve still. There’s no excuse for not taking more preventative actions now, we’ve seen what happened in other countries, we’re not immune from getting sick,And relying on our better health care, is not going to work if there are too many people to care for her at any given time.

It is quite clear you do not believe in the greatness of America. I believe in two things, if there is a horrendous epidemic, America will figure it our. Always have, always will. We will take care of our own, and you have clearly lost the individual ruggedness we used to have.
I also have faith that God our Father is in control. Recalling the words of the good book: All things work together for the Glory of God. Even if this is an attack from the powers and principalities that wage war above us everyday, I am rested assured that those powers of evil cannot and will not prevail.
Recall that the greatest Lutheran Hymn of all time — A mighty fortress is our God — was written during the plague.
