Re-post with “(vanity)” in the title...

I hate those.
I hate those.
FR is not the easiest to use for searching or, as mentioned, posting a new thread fast. Multiple people could be setting up the long process at the same time.
I dont blame anyone for repetitive threads.

Or add whatever search terms you want.
Once upon a time, threads on FR included substantive comments and it was important for the posts to be linked and to be kept together with the original article that generated the thread.
Now, comments are mostly nonsense, usually less than a sentence by someone who has not read the article. So, it really doesn’t matter anymore. The more posts on interesting articles, the better.
It’s by no means a foolproof method of avoiding the dreaded double post, but here’s what I do. When I’m ready to post a new thread, I’ll open Free Republic in another window and do a quick final check to see if someone snuck in the same article ahead of me. It almost always works to avoid a double.
So sometime FR glitches and you press “post” again because nothing happens.
Who cares if it’s posted twice? It’s not on purpose, obviously.
If this is the apex of the things you have to worry about...in actuality...you have nothing to worry about.
Double postings...
It’s like a wheel within a wheel.
I find what works best is:
Do not search a “whole title”. Titles change from news outlet to news outlet.
Enter a main word in the search box of FR and use the drop down menu to search “title”
Example: biden
https://www.freerepublic.com/focus/search?m=all;o=time;q=quick;s=biden
Check to see if the story you wish to post is already there.
Define Double posting.
Is it the same article or topic?
100% of the whinners are those that have never taken the time and effort to post an article.

get you feelings hurt?
Im a relative newbie. Since only 2005. But I remember when Free Republic was a leaner meaner place without duplicates and vanities and blogs and other assorted useless threads.
I think its past time that management took a more direct role in maintaining the number of and the quality of the threads that are posted here.
I have always tried to be tolerant of it. The tools to help aren’t great for everyone and I fail sometimes too.
I have much less sympathy for blog pimpers, even if I am not militant about it. I believe a lot of people exist who don’t understand that they shouldn’t, and I have always thought that a serious, good-natured warning is always the best first step.
I admit I have seen a few posters who disregard those kinds of approaches (often with great, persistent, and deliberate zeal) and the only treatment IMO is instant permanent banning.
I just think duplicates are gonna happen though even with well intentioned preparation.
Free Republic was once a great site. But now. It’s weak.
And should you decide to post a new thread, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE double-check your spelling so you don’t look like a moron.
And if the story is about some town or county most people haven’t heard of or for which there are more than one in this country (i.e. “Portland”), please kindly add the state abbreviation to the headline.
And if it is an abbreviation that means multiple things (i.e. “PA” could mean “Pennsylvania” or “Palestinian Authority” or “plate appearances”) please give us a hint so we know what your subject is about.
Thanks, and I’ll hang up.
