What it's REALLY like to catch coronavirus: First British victim, 25, describes how 'worst disease he ever had' left him sweating, shivering, and struggling to breath as his eyes burned and bones ached [Cat infected, died.]
The Daily Mail ^ | March 4, 2020 | CONNOR REED

Posted on 03/04/2020 8:46:09 PM PST by familyop

Connor Reed, a 25-year-old expat from Llandudno in North Wales, has worked in a school in Wuhan, China, for almost a year. In November he became the first British man to catch the coronavirus...Day 9: Even the kitten hanging around my apartment seems to be feeling under the weather. It isn’t its usual lively self, and when I put down food it doesn’t want to eat...Day 11: Suddenly, I’m feeling better, physically at least. The flu has lifted. But the poor kitten has died. I don’t know whether it had what I’ve got, or whether cats can even get human flu.

Why go to hospital? As a person who had a very bad case of Pneumonia years ago, I will tell you that they can administer anti-virals and provide IV hydrating solutions and breathing treatments in addition to monitoring vitals...

Like any diseases everyone’s body handles it differently.

Don’t be such a baby?

The guy was 25 and in good health and it took him over 3 weeks to get better—spending a period of time in the hospital...

It is not “being such a “baby” to not want to get this.

I’m wondering how people die from this- Do they drown because of fluid in the lungs?...

I wonder also. My speculation from what I've heard: Covid-19 (I believe this is what they call this Corona Virus) infects the lung cells, and causes them to burst open and spread the virus to other cells. The dead lung cells and their debris build up in the lungs and hamper the lung's ability to do their work in providing oxygen to the blood. So in a sense you drown from the fluids and dead cells. I also heard that laying down on your stomach is better for breathing while sick (don't know if true). I was wondering if an inhaler would help (I was prescribed inhalers for lung problems a couple years ago), but probably not much help if your lungs are clogged due to Covid-19.

On this site any post on any topic can quickly deteriorate into dialog from Monty Python or Blazing Saddles.

Captain:

You are familiar with the New Rochelle case—the guy who infected his family and commuted to Grand Central Station every day.

If you do commute to GCS, visit your doc and ask to be tested. The tests should be available in New York at this point.

The test should be covered as a necessary test under private health insurance if you have coverage.

Almost. Here's a video with graphics about treatment for severe cases and more. The link will start the video at the part about treatment. If you haven't already seen it, you will probably find it to be fascinating, surprising, concise and very clear.

He documented it well. Geez 2 times he thought he was getting better only to get progressively worse.

Also on Feb 4, it was day 72 since he got sick. That means he may have been one of the first infected.

Definitely get checked out. But, call first as they may have a protocol for those with symptoms like yours.

You said relapse? Have you been sick longer than Sunday?

The fool was diagnosed with pneumonia, given antibiotics at hospital, but refused to take the meds.

Yes, it was a line from a comedy. Vince Ferrer has been a perpetual source of cheer for us over the years and always means well.

This is a welcome time for a laugh for me. I’ve had a condition for more than 4 years (daily periods of swelling and congestion from the guts to the brain and everything in between) and have a little cold-like bug to go with it now (odds are, probably not *the* bug, no known cases within many miles of here).

Been exercising and getting a little better over time but not there, yet. The household schedule has changed often to go with changing work hours and to solve a few problems (unhealthy neighborhood, another condition in the family, repairs, etc.). Was awakened a couple of hours ago from a strange dream by needing to expectorate. Don’t remember anything of the dream but the sensation of sleeping peacefully and comfortably in a swamp-like muck, then emitting a long, hoarse, rattling moan while beginning to awaken and breathe.

Not making that up. Kinda cool, really, but kinda weird, too. Going to lay down for more rest before rising again to give someone a needed ride.

I saw that too. Made no sense.

“ Day 13: I arrived back at my apartment late yesterday evening. The doctor prescribed antibiotics for the pneumonia but I’m reluctant to take them — I’m worried that my body will become resistant to the drugs and, if I ever get really ill and need them, they won’t work. I prefer to beat this with traditional remedies if I can.

From what I have read “SARS-CoV-2” is the specific virus name, and the disease it causes is called “COVID-19”.
