The Oscar-winning actor/director, 47, sat down with Diane Sawyer for a tell-all interview during which he opened up about his struggles with sobriety, being a dad and his very public split from the actress.
During the emotional interview, Affleck admitted he never wanted his marriage to end in divorce and called the experience "painful."
“I didn’t want to get divorced, I didn’t want to be a divorced person, I really didn’t want to be a split family with my children,” he said. “It upset me because it meant I wasn’t who I thought I was and that was so painful and so disappointing. In myself.”

A buddie was working on a movie set with Affleck and said he was a really nice normal guy. Also on the set was Cuba Gooding Jr. who he said is a total jackass.
Face it Ben, you ****ed up. And now you have to live with it. Just do what’s best for your children and respect their mother and it will be fine.

They are both insane Democrats, but I feel for ‘em. Jennifer seems like a good girl. Addiction destroys everything. Alcoholism is particularly destructive and difficult to set aside.

It seems a common problem in the entertainment world- Arnold, Robin Williams, Affleck.....
It sounds like he’s had his moment of clarity.
I know a few alcoholics, and its only when they can see themselves (and the chaos they have caused themselves and others) in completely objective terms, and as a 3rd party would see them is there a chance for a new start.
He seems a bit more levelheaded than Alec Baldwin.
Diane Sawyer snagged a big interview. I thought she had retired. What Ben said sounded very sincere, but I have to wonder if the entire interview and confession are not much more than an elaborate advertisement for his new movie; “The Way Back”, story of a recovering alcoholic.
All these kind and well chosen words, Ben could have told her face to face in private at any time. Nevertheless, it’s a good step for his family’s sake.
He went for the wrong Jennifer.

I remember Glenn Beck saying he met her at some event a couple of years ago, snd she seemed very nice and he seemed to think she seemed fairly conservative, or at lest not Hollywood left, in some ways. It was a somehwt detailed story, but that is bout all I remember.
