I have been auto-updating for at least 10 years and never had a single problem.

Three different machines, all purchased new and all updating on the MS schedule.

All Brand name hardware.

I’m baffled as to why people have trouble with these updates. They are obviously doing something different than me.

A PC guy once told me that folks who have trouble are those who install applications that re-write register settings. But I don’t know if that’s true or if it’s that simple.

You probably should count your blessings... your experience is out of the ordinary. Your day will probably eventually come. I am someone who friends and relatives call when their computers go on the blink. A fairly high percentage of the time it has something to do with a Microsoft update. They usually think that they have malware or a hardware malfunction.

Consider yourself lucky and back everything up while you can and make sure you have a reboot disc/drive.
