The Los Angeles Chargers entered the offseason hoping to have a resolution on quarterback Philip Rivers prior to free agency. The team has now made that decision. On Monday, the Chargers announced that their longtime starting quarterback will enter free agency, ending his tenure with the organization after 16 seasons.
"After stepping back a bit from last season, we reconnected with Philip and his representatives to look at how 2019 played out, assess our future goals, evaluate the current state of the roster and see if there was a path forward that made sense for both parties," general manager Tom Telesco said in a team statement. "As we talked through various scenarios, it became apparent that it would be best for Philip and the Chargers to turn the page on what has truly been a remarkable run."
In the same statement, Rivers expressed gratitude for his time in the Chargers organization.
"I never took for granted the opportunity to lead this team out on to the field for 235 games," Rivers said. "We had a lot of great moments, beginning in San Diego and then finishing in LA. I wish my teammates and coaches nothing but the best moving forward."

Good QB who never got to play for a good organization.
Where to:
Giants?
Miami?
Dallas?.............................
Yes, a good QB, but his throwing motion makes me cringe everytime I see it.
Kaepernick is rested and ready. :)
Kinda like Dan Marino. That worked out.
Bad organization.....
Yep. And because of his age, he will go to a team in desperate need of help, or be a backup somewhere. He’s a good guy and I wish him well.
I’m thinking Indianapolis or Tennessee.
“Kaepernick is rested and ready. :)”
And will explode when someone picks up Rivers and he’s still sitting at home.
Good!
He’s gonna need that when he gets a REAL JOB!.................
Tampa, maybe...............
Perhaps Indy?
XFL.
Opens up the Brady to the Chargers rumors from a month or so back.
Philly?
They could have just kept Drew Brees - but he’d be getting waived now with no championships. Rivers was a hell of a QB and he deserved better than the Chargers under the Spanos family.
Perhaps Indy?
Then they’ll have two NC State alum.
I think it’s time for Rivers, Brady and Brees to all retire.
It’s not going to get any better for them.
He would be a perfect fit in Denver.
I am not a Denver Fan.
Dallas - Trade Prescott for draft pick - Sign Rivers for a championship run and use acquired draft pick to move up in draft to select future replacement.
