Best Foreign film AND Best Picture? That’s gotta be a first. Question is how can that even happen?
Hollywood putting out garbage I saw none of these films and I see all films worth watching
Simple, Hollywood makes sucky films.
social justice.
It was heavily promoted as a potential historic moment.
doubt voters even watched it
6 times “best film” and “best foreign” got nominations in the past
11 times foreign language films got nominated
It is a first, although it should not have been, in that I felt, that both "Goodbye, Lenin" and "The Lives of Others" were two German films that should have won Best Picture.
It's a dumb, boring movie with unsympathetic characters and an unbelievable plot that doesn't make sense.
Here in the Philippines, K-pop and K dramas rule (they are very good, and often dubbed in the local Tagalog language). Not just the films but the serials, both modern and historical dramas.
So why did this film get an award, whereas many other first rate films, e.g. the Admiral (about Admiral Yu’s victory over Japanese invaders 400 years ago) lose?
political correctness of course.
Actually the best K drama in recent years was Train to Buson: a zombie movie.
Because it was an incredibly entertaining movie with awesome performances and a wildly original and engrossing story. People here have lambasted it for being anti-capitalist but I didn’t see it that way at all. There were plenty of barbs aimed at both families and the poor family hardly comes off as heroic.
Which is odd since “Parasite” is so riddled with plot holes that it probably qualifies as some sort of cheese.
I really have a hard time believing that Parasite won. Must be another Russian hacking job!
It’s an interesting film. Well made. But, Best Picture?? Puh-lease.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was MUCH better. I’ve seen it three times, and I like it more every time.
We saw the Short over the weekend. They definitely picked the right one. Hair Love was the ONLY animated short that was worth a crap. All of the Live Action shorts were very good.

It happened last in 1999, Best Actor, Best Music and Best Foreign Language Film:
‘Life is Beautiful’ was shown at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival, and went on to win the Grand Prix. ... At the 71st Academy Awards, Benigni won Best Actor for his role, with the film winning two more awards for Best Music, Original Dramatic Score and Best Foreign Language Film.
I remember Benigni jumping all around the stage when he had won. :)
Loved the film. I’ve watched it a number of times. Of course since it’s about the EVILS of the Leftist’s hero, Hitler, it would never be made in Hollywood these days. ;)
