Makes me wonder if the pilot lost his sense of horizon and the helicopter began to tilt. Kind of like when John Kennedy Jr. crashed his plane in the fog because he lost his artificial horizon and thought he was flying straight when he was actually descending?

They could have hit a power line.

You’re right about John John.

He got caught in a graveyard spiral. He took a shortcut over the water after completing most of the flight within sight of land and lights. At most he would have saved five minutes.
