Months after it was first reported that Colin Farrell will be playing The Penguin in Warner Bros.' The Batman, director Matt Reeves has confirmed the news.

The director took to Twitter on Monday to confirm that Farrell is indeed playing the Penguin, sharing a GIF of Farrell from the 2008 movie In Bruges with the caption, 'Wait - Is that you, #Oz?' along with a bat emoji.

'Oz' is a reference to The Penguin's given name, Oswald Cobblepot, and the tweet comes hours after the first photos of Farrell leaked from the London set.

My favorite villain on the old batman tv show was the Penguin.

Devito was a bit too “gross” for me the way they made his character in his version. A bit too sci-fi and alien.

I’m hoping for some of the effort in this one that was put in to the Joker the past 10 years....not counting Leto’s.

’ve always wanted the Penguin to be more suave and proper

Go back to 1966 for that.

Oh Lord. Another Batman movie. Warner Brothers deserves a nuclear Ka-POW!! for this. Sheesh. I finished with that Franchise after that Val Kilmer joke. (Though Uma “Poison Ivy” Thurman... Hubba hubba.)

He looks more like Alfred than the Penguin.

"The best is the current Gotham Pinguin actor, “Robin Lord Taylor.”

I agree completely - just the right mix of evil, vulnerability, awkwardness, cunning and intellect. He plays it perfectly.

Exactly what I was thinking. After 4 “reboots” of Spiderman and more “restarts” of Marvel Stupid Heroes than there are characters in the Marvel/DC universe, we need another “new and improved” Batman movie like we need another Socialist running on the Democrat ticket this year.

After the enormous box office AND critical success of Joker and Dark Knight, expect all the comic book movies to “turn real”.

You're probably right. Batman stories started being a little darker around the 70's (he is a Dark Knight, after all). But they are getting carried away now. I don't even like the idea that Batman now wears body armor. I think he should wear the black and gray costume he always wore. Batman does not need body armor because he moves so fast he can't be shot. It may not be realistic, but, hey, it's a comic book character.

I think my favorite iteration of the character (aside from the comics) is Batman: The Animated Series from the early 90's.

I want them to make a movie about Plastic Man.

The comics were great fun, as he would become a mail box, a barber pole, etc.

Batman, Superman, Spiderman and others have been overdone.

I agree, but Burgess Meredith is no longer with us. DeVito is still with us and can reprise his role.

Ah, but thanks to CGI he could be. And I'd rather have BMW than CF. Gack.

And did they cast Edward Cullen as the new Batman??

If so, Holy Box Office Bomb, Batfans!
