FRISCO, Texas -- Mike McCarthy will be the ninth head coach in the history of the Dallas Cowboys, a source confirmed to ESPN.
The news was first reported by Fox Sports.
McCarthy stayed at the home of Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones on Saturday night, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
"Once you stay at Jerry's house, he doesn't lose his guy," the source said.
McCarthy replaces Jason Garrett, who went 85-67 as Dallas' coach from 2010 to 2019, with the hope that McCarthy can do for the Cowboys what he did for another storied franchise -- win a Super Bowl.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
:-)
Cowboys wasted no time in hiring new coach. Meanwhile, Giants and Gittleman........
Until Jerry fires himself, the Cowturds are going to remain mediocre.
Cowboys aren’t scheduled to play GB next year.............
“Until Jerry fires himself, the Cowturds are going to remain mediocre.”
As a Cowboy fan I have to say I concur with this assessment.
I was thinking with everything up in limbo in New England, Jerry should of made Belichick an offer he could not refuse.
I don’t think Belichick is going anywhere..........
Coach...............Owner........GM.........President
Jimmy Johnson.......Jerry Jones, Jerry Jones, Jerry Jones
Barry Switzer.......Jerry Jones, Jerry Jones, Jerry Jones
Dave Campo..........Jerry Jones, Jerry Jones, Jerry Jones
Chan Gaily..........Jerry Jones, Jerry Jones, Jerry Jones
Bill Parcells.......Jerry Jones, Jerry Jones, Jerry Jones
Wade Phillips.......Jerry Jones, Jerry Jones, Jerry Jones
Jason Garrett.......Jerry Jones, Jerry Jones, Jerry Jones
I think I see a pattern here...................
78.8%...................
Yep.
Workers have to know whom they’re working for and players have to know whom they’re playing for. It can’t be two guys, because you can’t make two bosses happy at once when those two bosses are not on the exact same page as one another.
Either Jones is running the team or McCarthy is, and if the players never know who it is, then really no one is running the team.
If Mike’s pattern follows, you’ll see Dallas have a high incidence of player injuries season after season, and the ever-predictable west coast offense run on first down plays.
0.5592 winning record percentage.....
Where is a Tom Landry when you really need one.
:-)
As a Packer fan I can say I have no cross words for Mike McCarthy. At one point he was forced to hand over the play calling to an Offensive coach. It seemed clear his offensive schemes were old and tired and well known to other teams in the league.
That happens to every coach eventually.
Jason Garrett: 1st down? Run the ball with Elliot.................
McCarthy wasnt right for the Giants. The Giants need a coach who is ok with a poop show.
I saw Jerry Jones brought that putz, Marvin Lewis, in for an interview. Thank goodness for you Cowboys fans, this was only a nod to the racist NFL.
