The interviews have started, countless others have been scheduled and in Dallas they deliberate again.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has over nine seasons of evidence as to what he has in Jason Garrett as a head coach. But it will take him at least three meetings to decide whether or not to bring him back next season, as the sides get set to gather again on Thursday.
All signs continue to point to Jones letting Garrett go with the coachs contract scheduled to expire on Jan. 14. But as the Cowboys delay hits 2020, other teams including two of their biggest rivals have quickly moved forward in their coaching searches.

Cause they arent firing him? I mean, what coach are you going to get who can deal with crazy Jerry Jones?
Jerry doesn’t want him going to the Giants.
Garret’s trying to retire and Jones is trying to get him to stay because no other coach in their right mind will take the job.
I think everyone is being shortsighted in thinking thag firing Garrett is the answer, and that he's the problem. The players on this team aren't a cohesive unit, Dak is overpaid, Zeke is a holdout....again, Jason is a good man and he deserves more time, a LOT more time for this vision to take hold.
Cowboy fans should eschew their short-term "I want it NOW" attitude and adopt a more prudent, measured, and frankly adult attitude. Garrett has the support of the owner, and the owner clearly know what's best.
I'm also an Eagles fan.
Jerry realizes that there are no good coaches out there to be had, that are willing to be his “puppet”.
If it was up to Jerry, his new coach would be... Jerry Jones. Trouble is, I don't think the 31 other NFL owners would allow him to do it.
Perhaps the smart move is for Jerry to finally allow Garrett to choose his assistants and have more say over player personnel moves.
Garrett actually is in a good negotiating position to demand those things, because he actually will get another coaching gig if the Cowboys fire him.
Jerry Jones has become the 21st Century Al Davis. (Al in his later years)
Unlike Al Davis, Jerry wasn’t successful as a coach.
As an owner, you can make the case that Jerry Jones wasn’t successful either. Those SB teams were the creation of Jimmy Johnson.
It’s not like Jerry Jones and Barry Switzer had much to do with the last Cowboys SB...
The Giants treat former Cowboys’ coaches better than the Cowboys do, see Tom Landry.
Dak made $2M and Elliott signed a 6 year deal last year.
Jerry wanted Sean Payton, but he re-upped with the Saints.
My theory is that right then Jerry wanted to re-up with Garrett, but Garrett was the one who told him to wait until the end of the season.
Dumbest move in the NFL history.
Exactly. For example, Obama's economic plan took a full 9 years to finally kick in in 2017 and Trump unfairly got all the credit. Garrett is sure to get over the hump if he gets another decade.
I'm also an Eagles fan.
For a minute there I thought you were a Lions fan.

It's right up there...
In general RB contracts should be month-to-month.
They would have gotten the same results with their backup, even if Ezekiel held out, he’s highly overrated anyway. He had that one great year because of the Offensive Line more than anything. Plus his suspension cost the team. You shouldn’t be rewarded for that.
Should have just used him up for the rest of his original contract, then let him go, just as they did with DeMarco Murray.
Major League Baseball is a unique beast because the commissioner is supposedly completely independent as a result of the Black Socks gambling scandal. But in the NFL the commissioner works for the team owners, who collectively own the NFL. So if the owners agree that one of them can prowl the sidelines with a clipboard then the Commissioner can't do squat about it. That said, we'll never see Jerry coaching the team.
