People should know that the reason for the proliferation of 'Florida Man' stories is a direct result of FL's open government law titled the Sunshine Act. Every other state protects the privacy of criminals, but Florida makes all crime reports immediately available to the public.

This makes it very easy for the media to get stories out of Florida and freely report them without the risk of being sued, all the other states have just as much crazy going on but it's simply kept secret.

As a Florida man since 1978 I can assure everyone that most of our mentally ill are not homeless. They were that way when they arrived from “up north” after taking early retirement to move here so they could constantly talk about how much better everything is “up north”.
