#1 They Shall Not Grow Old
I don’t need to see another Midway film. What I would like to see is a film about the largest naval battle in history, The Battle of Leyte Gulf.
And speaking of WWI films, I’m definitely going to see “1917” when it comes out next month.
Saw “6 Underground “ last night.
Great action flick and liked the locations...
I really hate DiCrapio, but he was good in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”.
Wait? Tom Hank and ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’ is not listed. Must be some mistake here.
They’re on my list...
Eastwoods Richard Jewell
Tarantinos Once Upon A Time In
Hollywood, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt play a fictional version of Burt Reynolds and his stuntman/director Hal Needham
Mangold, Ford v. Ferrari, starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale
Emmerichs Midway, Woody Harrelson plays Admiral Chester Nimitz, Dennis Quaid Admiral Halsey, and Aaron Eckhart Col. Doolittle
They forgot Togo - A movie about a man and his dog sled team racing against time to deliver a serum to save the children of Nome from a diphtheria outbreak in 1925.
No women or Black Transvestite dog mushers, just heroic manly White men.
There were actually two Midway films this year
The other was Dauntless
It didn’t have the big budget as Midway, and it was told more from the Pilot’s and Rescue crew’s POV vs the big Picture but it is definitely worth checking out.
I haven’t seen any of these movies, but why does he say Burt Reynolds’s career was dying in 1969, when it hadn’t even gotten properly started yet? Does the author mix him up with someone else?
Did Burt Reynolds act in any westerns?
Geez, now I wish I hadn’t read that article. Too many spoilers. That one should definitely have been posted with (Spoiler Alert) warning.
Of course, I already knew about Jewell. And I’ve very much liked every Eastwood-directed movie I’ve seen. Oddly, I found the spaghetti westerns and Dirty Harry movies boring. I think I finished only one Dirty Harry movie, only because I took the little woman on a date and paid for movie theater seats.
I’d like to see the Tarantino movie and Ford vs. Ferrari. Maybe when I can get them on demand for $3.99 each.
Die Hard is #1 every year.
The Bourne Identity is a close second and The Outlaw Josie Wales and Run Silent Run Deep get honorable mention.
I thought the pilot's view descending on the target was amazing.
“2019 was a surprisingly good year for conservatism at the movies”
Only in the most narrow sense of conservatism. It’s like saying you had a great gourmet meal and that the only downside was that you obtained it by dumpster diving.
Hollywood seems very averse to making anything truly conservative or family friendly, even if they have to sacrifice millions of dollars in opportunity cost.
It is up to independent filmmakers to address the unmet need for conservative and faith- and family-friendly flicks. Probably will require forging new distribution channels as well.
For those interested in the topic, I recommend watching the recent interview of Kirk Cameron by Ben Shapiro:

Also, Cameron has a recent video discussing this topic on a recent episode of Way of the Master:

Ford v Ferrari was excellent. They Shall Not Grow Old was released in 2018, though they did a 3-day re-release earlier this month. I went to see it again; it’s that good. Truly an epic movie, and the care and precision which Peter Jackson et al put into its creation is mind boggling.
The Cold Blue was superb too. It was made from restored footage shot by William Wyler, who with his film crew flew with the bombers of the 8th Air Force, and produced the Memphis Belle documentary in WW2. Current interviews and interactions with veterans of the 8th Air Force play a large role in the movie as well. I believe you can now see The Cold Blue on HBO.
