“The Baltic States earn a lot on transit of goods and raw materials from the East to the West, but Moscow intends to deprive them of their income, moving its transit to its own ports.”

Why wouldn’t Russia want to use its own ports and not lose money to other states? (Ignoring that the Baltic ports are probably a more efficient way to ship products, but this sounds like a matter of politics, and/or which mafia gets to feed).

Baltic ports are barely a more efficient way given we are talking about crossing borders and related tariffs.
