Metro said Monday afternoon that it was suspending train service between Metro Center and Foggy Bottom after a person was struck by a train at Farragut West.

Metro Transit Police said the person died and that video of the incident indicated the person purposely entered the tracks as a train was coming. Further details about the incident were not immediately available.

Metro said on its Twitter account shortly after 3:30 p.m. that it is no longer single-tracking between Foggy Bottom and McPherson Square, but to expect residual delays on the Blue and Orange lines.

Odd that they made a point of mentioning "Foggy Bottom" in this kind of article, which is both a nickname for the Department of State, and the neighborhood in which it resides.

Foggy Bottom is the name of a station on the WMATA system.

Foggy Bottom is the next stop on the Metro west of Farragut Square. It’s the last stop in DC before the train enters Virginia.

I was just going to ask what connection the deceased has with the Clintons.

I’m of the mind that if the method of your departure from this world is being hit by a freakin’ train, you’re a deserving winner of a Darwin Award.

Sadly the commuter trains in our metro area are used as a device for suicide way too often. Wait for the train, step out on the track, whack.

Selfish pricks. Go kill yourself without making someone else do it and suffer that bad experience of doing it for you.

a person

Was it a man, a woman or one of 57 other "genders"?

“Washington, DC”

I knew it sounded foreign.

Here in Calgary, at least three deaths a year due to accidents involving people and the ‘C-Train’. In such an event, in no case has the person come out ahead of the train. Very few have been suicides but there are many Darwin Award contestants.

It is a poorly designed system. Instead of above grade, much of the system is at grade. Most of these people were too focused on their cell phones and headphones to even look for the train. I pity the driver of the C-Train.

You know you hang out for fun in D.C. too much when you live 2000 miles away and recognize exactly which stations this is on the Metro. Ever since 45 has been in office I have spend weeks at a time enjoying the fed complex 7 times in 2019 probably the last time in my life friendlies are in the capital. Great food, some great people. Once winter is over I’ll be back for spring. The Apollo anniversary was impressive at the Smithsonian institution they opened it at night and protected the launch on the Washington memorial truly impressive.

C-Train isn't such an appropriate name, then, after all.

I know the Metro very well. I once lived in Rosslyn, Va., just over the Potomac from Georgetown, and I usually stay in Rosslyn whenever I visit DC--and I usually go there once a year. So I am very familiar with Foggy Bottom, Farragut Square and McPherson Square.

Yes you are correct. One would think it would be associated with George Washington Hospital and University... also part of the swamp... along with the circle....

Back in 2012, I had taken METRO out to the far south of Arlington to a theater for a movie. As the movie ended and I walked back to the platform to return home....some guy two stops down jumped in front of the train. They shut down everything for four hours.

I’ll bet in the 3.5 years I was in the DC area....there must have been over 15 individuals who ‘jumped’.

With a Washington Capitals Game the city must have been at a stand still.
