Better bet is that scumball Schiff took a strategically placed "transcript" thinking it was something other than what it was for whatever reason (phony transcript? real transcript - but from the Obama administration?) He convinced Pelosi that they had Trump checkmated, dead to rights, no way out. Trump would never release it because what's in there would get him impeached, and then they could get him for blocking it.

But what they actually got was a canary trap fed to Schiff by his White House moles, and he funneled it back through the "whistleblower" into official channels (after changing the rules to allow it) in order to give it imprimatur.

Once Pelosi announced the impeachment and Trump instantly released the real transcript, they were caught, dead to rights. They have no play here. The transcript is innocuous, but they've already committed all resources and political capital. The cognitive dissonance you see between what the transcript says and what the Dems claim about it, is the result of they have no choice but to carry on pretending it's as damning as Schiff and Brennan and Pelosi thought it was (but wasn't).

That's also the reason that - especially right after the declassification - what Schiff and Derp talking heads were claiming as the contents of the transcript was completely at odds to what was actually released (The Schiff presser the day after declas is eerie, but telling).
