I'm waiting for someone to sneeze and Alexa reply with a "bless you"

I purchased a car several years ago, and at the time, was wearing a smart watch that was tied to my phone.
The salesman, who was from one of the previously occupied Soviet countries was trying to tell me how bad that device was, since the Govt uses it to listen in.
At the time, I dismissed it, but now?
Looks like he knew what he was talking about.

I would not question the knowledge or experience of someone who lived under the USSR.

The difference being, in the USSR the government was listening to keep you in line, while the technology in this article is listening in order to sell you something down the road. Your phone, your tv, you home devices such as Google Home and Amazon Echo are all listening to find out what you like and what you don’t like. They want your tendencies and how you make decisions. They want your money, they do not want to throw you in jail.

Smart watches don’t have the range to be useful bugs. The phone you hook it up to on the other hand... It’s a post privacy world, get used to it.
