So, why is it better than seed implants coupled with external beam radiation?

“The new technique is called MRI-guided transurethral ultrasound ablation (TULSA)”

“Take me back to Tulsa, I'm too young to die...”

And with a 90+% reduction in prostate size, to boot - beats that stuff Joe Theismann pitches all to hell.

It was out patient, I’m left with the left half of the prostate.

Well that explains why pregnant women almost never get prostate cancer.

So, putting a rod in your prostate heals you?

I once worked for a urologist who used a similar system to treat enlarged prostates. A probe was inserted through the urethra that contained a microwave generator. The microwaves would “cook” the prostate. What happens to meat after it is cooked? It shrinks. Unfortunately a few days later the prostate would have an inflammatory response and swell up and I’d have to prescribe steroids for a few days to get rid of the swelling. After that they were fine.

Sounds like using ultrasound instead of microwaves is a much better idea.

I have wondered if the cure to cancer might come not from chemicals or radiation, but from some sort of sound/vibratory therapy. My reasons for thinking this? Almost new-agey, in that “vibrations” constitute music and harmony (if done properly), and harmony implies order and healing. Blast away, I don’t care.

I had prostrate cancer but wanted 100% gone, not just 80%. I have been cancer free for several years now and doing great, thanks to catching it early and good treatment.

Instead, why doesn’t medical science try to find the cause of prostate cancer.

This reminds me of a liver cancer treatment, where they insert to steel rods so the cancer is between the two points. Then they turn on the electricity and burn out the cancer area. Works.

Seven years ago was treated for prostate cancer using proton radiation. Successful and benign treatment, the only invasive part was implanting bits of gold around my prostate to act as markers. The only side effect to the treatment was loose stools. Problem with the treatment is that it is very expensive, compared to other methods, plus there are not very many proton treatment facilities.

Would love to shrink BPH for the last 30 yrs or so. Sucks that I can’t have MRI so this won’t work for me either. Will wait for the next nifty cure if it comes in time.
