I’m a woman and I agree with you. It’s interesting to me to see how the younger generation handles family finances. It used to be that when we got married, we opened joint accounts and the husband’s earnings were considered family budget / income.

Now, alot of millenials who are married maintain separate accounts, especially when the woman earns more. Expenses are shared equally. So the person earning less, has less disposable income.

Feminists wine about inequality all the time, but let’s be hones. Women are really in control.

They're smart to do that. Even if one spouse earns less, he/she should keep his/her funds separate. Because a high-earning spouse can clean out a joint account, too. In fact, every engaged couple should sign a pre-nuptial agreement before marriage.

I'm really shocked that married couples live that way. I've been married over 30 years and have no idea about the concept of "my' money or "her" money. Whatever we earn gets dumped into joint accounts and we pay the bills together. If enough if left over, we go out to eat or take a vacation. It's always been that way and I know no other way.

I can see a lot of arguments ensuing over trying to keep the money separate in a marriage.
