Someone had a term for “things are so good that neurotics have to invent reasons for hysteria and declare things worse than ever.” Wish I could remember it.
(* - real cost of necessities, not “OMG I need my HBO” etc.)
I believe that is essentially a phrase first used by one Rush Limbaugh.
