oday, the U.S. Navy's quartet of converted Ohio class nuclear-powered guided-missile submarines, or SSGNs, are among America's most powerful, in-demand, and flexible weapons.
These giant and secretive submarines are known for their ability to carry up to 154 Tomahawk land-attack cruise missiles and dozens of special operations frogmen into contested territory to ply their quiet trade, but really, they are much, much more than that.

Several articles rolled into one very long article complete with many graphics and videos. All public domain info.
And what comes next in submarines.
Re: Public Domain Information
Did you watch the video?
It’s unnerving and astounding how much information about our weapon systems we put into the public domain.
We probably still have tons of tricks up our sleeves.
“Its unnerving and astounding how much information about our weapon systems we put into the public domain.”
According to Tom Clancy, that usually means that it is mostly outdated.
I read the article. The capabilities described are impressive. So, why the **** are we still in Iraq and Afghanistan getting our asses kicked by a bedraggled bunch of ragtag muzzies after 20 ****ing years?
OHIO PING!
Please let me know if you want on or off the Ohio Ping list.
Ohio Guided Missile Submarines Were Designed To Be Drone-Carrying Clandestine Command Centers

Hey. Ohio is in the title and subs ping.
Seems to be a huge expense to hit a small target. Can we really afford spending this much to wack a mole? Maybe a strategic target but not just a bunch of terrorists.
The US should have sold one or two to Taiwan.
Because we are nation building, doncha know
“People Will Talk”, great movie.
Dam, that's alot of shock and awe.
If you go back to my 1984 book, a history of the Trident program, you’ll find in the conclusion we predicted exactly these types of mods and uses for the Ohios.
Based on the title I thought maybe Ohio had it’s own fleet.
I wouldn't say we're "getting our asses kicked," but intelligence gathering and command and control (which are some of the things these subs do), are far different from going in and killing those ragtags. Killing them often requires "boots on the ground." It's a complex mission.
"You may fly over a land forever; you may bomb it, atomize it, and wipe it clean of life - but if you desire to defend it, protect it,and keep it for civilization, you must do this on the ground, the way the Roman Legions did - by putting your soldiers in the mud."
T.R. Fehrenbach, This Kind of War: A Study In Unpreparedness, 1963
Added to the library. Thank you.
Interesting weapons systems for sure. Anything on the surface, launched to the surface or that creates noise makes the submarine very vulnerable to detection. Once detected they can be tracked and killed fairly easily.
I wasn’t aware of T.R. Fehrenbach’s writings, but that’s exactly what I had in mind.
You wrote: If you want to keep the barbarians at bay and protect civilized people, there is only one way to do that:

This is absolute nonsense on steroids. I realize this passes for strategic thinking nowadays, but it is total idiocy. Rather than protecting this nation, the fact that we are stationed in over 150 locations around the world fighting never-ending wars ad infinitum is bankrupting this country and will lead to our destruction, which is exactly what happened to the Roman Empire. The fact that Trump is trying to put a stop to the neo-con insanity of the military-industrial complex and their warmongering may be the primary reason to support him right now.
All part of our cunning plan to force Michigan to take Toledo back...
