Unions are far from perfect. We all know that. But this story shows where unions can be useful. Management people love to cover things up. They ignore serious problems. Sometimes the only people willing to tell the truth are the union people.
P.S. I spent decades teaching in urban schools. And you can be sure of one thing. For every teacher assault that makes the evening news, 100 will go unreported. (Not an exaggeration.)
This is what happens when you get teacher’s unions running the show. You get hurt teachers all so some fat as* 68 year old retired English teacher can continue to get his\her diabetes\blood-pressure medicine paid at 100% and receive his\her pension for life. It’s about the free stuff and protecting the bureaucracy. Teachers in America are the best and worst of us.
A true statement. They CAN be useful in a situation like this.
However, in my experience with unions (teacher unions and other), the union will make no effort to help the teachers. Injuries? Who cares? The union isn't really there to represent the teachers. The union is there for two reasons: 1) The Union represents the union and 2) The union collects dues and sends most of the money to the DNC.
I would not expect the union to lift a finger to protect teachers from violent students.
