Unfortunately, southern VA is not what matters, What matters is Northern VA, Norfolk, & Newport News.
We dutifully cast our wasted votes here in Richmond. A Republican will never win in Richmond. The good news for us is that we are moving to western VA where our vote will count.

Some of the districts were redrawn by courts to group parts of Richmond and suburbs. In the VA Senate district I live it was drawn to include parts of Chesterfield county heading northeast to include Manchester and Forest Hill.

FYI. We only have local/regional races and no statewide races this time. They can have all of northern VA -- that doesn't affect the other races. So they can win the "popular vote" for the whole of VA, but the election today we still have a chance to hold our state legislative majorities (sort of like what President Trump did in 2016 on a national scale). What you're saying is equivalent to saying California and NY leaning so far left, etc. Yes, but we still have a chance with the legislature as we have no statewide races today.
