“That was THE best WVFL State Convention that I have ever attended!” said one woman as she was leaving the 46th annual event which took place October 19 in Fairmont, West Virginia.
The highlight of the day was a visit from pro-life Governor Jim Justice who spoke for 30 minutes. Gov. Justice talked of his support for upcoming legislation as well as a personal story of one of his wife’s pregnancies.
The crowd was also addressed by Rep. David McKinley who has a 100% pro-life voting record. Attorney General Patrick Morrisey spoke as well, and reiterated the importance of mounting a rigorous defense should our pro-life laws be taken to court.
Traumatic brain injury survivor Nicole Flynn delivered the Keynote Address. She reminded us how precious life is and how each person’s life has purpose.
Other presentations included: what to look for in a hospice; the introduction of the West Virginia Alliance for Ethical Health Care (a WVFL sub-committee) ; and National Right to Life Political Director/WVFL Political Liaison Karen Cross’ “The Battle Continues” gave us a thorough preview of the 2020 elections and all that is at stake.
Another timely topic was Saving Babies with Sidewalk Counseling, while the last presentation dealt with a strategy to combat the Abortion is Still Legal in WV billboard campaign.
Nicole Flynn also spoke at the Teen Day Camp that went on in conjunction with the adult convention. The younger group participated in a Q&A with two of the youngest members of the West Virginia House of Delegates–Kayla Kessinger and Caleb Hanna (himself a teen).
Judging by the evaluation sheets returned, the vast majority said they would be coming back next year.
