Like I said, I don’t fly. I never have flown very much, so paying for extra privileges like quick check-in is out of the question for me. Glad you found a way out of being treated like a piece of meat, though!
Compare to the ease of access to the Denver airport...
I was in Scotland and took a train from Inverness to Glasgow. Nice trip and normal, everyday people on the train. Not sure how fast we went but the one thing I thought is....In the states these trains would turn into something like Greyhound bus. Something no one would use unless they had to.
I’ve been on Swiss, German, Austrian and Dutch trains. They all have their issues. I do agree, they are ultra-modern and way better than what existed in the 1980s.
But I’ll point out on an extremely hot day...almost all of them have HVAC problems in getting the car cool.
On seating, if you attempt to ride in rush-hour periods, they all have limited seating and you are advised to get advanced seating or ride first-class.
Drinking earl grey & being jealous of your trip ; )
Really? That’s a thing? If flight shaming ever comes to the U.S., I might move to Dubai. I’ll just say quiet about their human rights practices and they’ll allow me to live my life as I have in the U.S.

If you’re a Christian, do you think that Dubai will let you be one forever?
Plane:
Air France - non-stop, Basel to Charles De Gaulle AP, Paris, 1 hour 15 minutes $166.
Train:
Basel SBB to Paris Garde de Lyon, nonstop (no transfer), 3 hours 9 minutes, $199.60
Hmmmm.... What would you do, slower, more expensive, or faster and cheaper????
I'll take my chances with the Gulf Arabs. Right now in a month I will turn 36. Let's say radical Environmentalists take over the U.S., I'll be in my 40s or 50s by then. Dubai loves Westerners like us so we will fit 8n just fine.
Wow, higher fare on the train even with all of the subsidy and government control. Who would have thought.
If you want to prove that to yourself and FR at large, you can make the move now.
Will they be having Taggert Transcontinental running the trains?
This is right out of Atlas Shrugged.
Yup.
Here’s the link to Swiss Rail.

Compute your own ticket and you’ll see.
Also, most train travel requires transferring trains along the way, or at least multiple stops along the way. I much prefer non-stop.
Maybe I will.
I’ve done that route; it takes about 3.5 hours to go 180 miles.
Of course, it takes close to an hour to get from central Paris to CDG via the RER trains, then you need to be beyond security at least 45 minutes before the flight goes. At the Basel end, the airport is a distance outside Basel (it is shared with Mulhouse, France and Freiburg, Germany).
So the trip takes about the same amount of time whether by air or rail.
I was impressed with the no bums, no derelicts, no trash. Just normal people riding the train.
Sure, I’ve been to Basel a number of times. Paris, too. But I’ve only ever driven to Switzerland (from both Italy and Germany).
I did take the train from Kaiserslautern to Paris many times and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Europe does have nice trains. The farther you go, however, the more air travel is required.
I spent time in Greece (Crete) and the UK (pre-Chunnel), too, but flying to those places was necessary.
