Uh, the unemployment rate? People are working?
This is like um, not hard to figure out at all
Not just common sense, but history tells us that prosecuting minor crime helps to decrease the incidence of major crime. I read an article once on how Giuliani reduced crime in NYC using that principle.
I thought we always just blamed video games for stuff like this.
Maybe because minor crimes are being excused with, at most, a slap on the wrist and the perpetrator released, so the cops see that their work is pointless ... ??
Unnamed “experts” who might or might not really exist == sock puppets for the usual suspects.
My theory is that they are preoccupied by more serious crimes. And also that they are intimidated by anti-police rhetoric.
Bingo. A decline in arrests does not mean a decline in crime.
Heck, Chicago and other Liberal cesspools excuse the MAJOR crimes too
Most prosecutors won’t take a case that isn’t a slam dunk. Police feel they are wasting their time if suspect isn’t caught in the act, with video.
Spending the time to solve a case, find the suspect- only to have the prosecutor fail to accept the case has to be frustrating. Judges are soft on crime, so even those cases that make it to court don’t usually go to jail, or stay there.
The socialists hate police, openly hate police.
It is not a surprise to me that arrests are down. Also not a surprise that crime is out of control in many cities.
years long decline in misdemeanor cases across New York and California
In California, the Majority of what used to be Felonies are now misdemeanors, In Los Angeles the LAPD does not ENFORCE any Crime if it is a misdemeanor. Petty crime, shoplifting, breaking and entering, slinging dope, pimping out your sister, drugs, and many many more CRIMES simply are NOT enforced. Even if they do enforce one these crimes, within 24 hours they are on the street and the case is over, there is no [punishment. If you get sentenced to less than 1 year in the Los Angeles County Jail, you will be Processed and Released for Time Served within 24 hours.
If I were a cop today I wouldn’t stop crime. The people hate cops and want them gone. OK, they’re gone. Crime’s up. Now what? Beg the cops and maybe they’ll return.
Cops are being told to stand down or are doing so voluntarily. Fewer arrests does not necessarily mean a lower crime rate.
I cancelled my subscription to Hate Trump news three years ago.
What happened in NYC was that, when they arrested and processed people arrested for minor crimes, many had outstanding warrants for major crimes.
The criminal personality-type commits lots of crimes. A mugger has to rob a LOT of people per week to get enough money to live on.
If you identify who the chronic criminals are, and prosecute and imprison them, then your crime rate will drop by quite a bit. Allowing a chronic criminal to accumulate dozens of arrests is just stupid.
Its a great example of the law of unintended consequences. Many large city police departments receive funding and promotions based on their crime statistics. When the stats go down they get rewarded. However, there are two ways to do this. Taking criminals off the street is the hard way. Not making arrests means nothing gets reported which also makes the stats look better and is the easy way. Which do you think they chose given the hostility and risk of lawsuits that come with making arrests?
Its called look the other way. Cant say I blame them.
They also stopped arresting illegal aliens to protect them from Us immigration laws.
Illegal aliens now have immunity from ALL of our laws.
“...Arrests fall; experts don’t know why....”
That’s easy...police have gone fetal because of the filth who are running the cities.
In California the legislature more or less determine it is not a crime if you steal less than a certain amount, nor is it a crime if you have drugs on you below a certain amount.
The police don’t arrest shoplifters, they are issued a citation and let go.
Caught with drugs, issue a citation, and let go.
Failure to appear and a warrant issued for not showing up in court, caught and they issue another citation.
See the pattern here? No arrest because the legislature does not want minor crimes prosecuted ( I will let you figure out why).
Unintended consequences - homeless camps near shopping centers and big box stores. When they want something they just walk in and take what they want. Nothing is done.
Predicting the future is risky but I will go out on a limb here and suggest things are going to get worse, before they get better.
