The student's father, who could not reach the young man through his friends, had also contacted police. 2 months and a vacation period not talking to his son?
My wife talks to our college daughter pretty much daily, and we usually have a few texts throughout the day.
Different parenting styles, I suppose.

We had a neighbor die inside his house. The smell could be detected from across the street. There was a Reason this guy was left undiscovered. I’m thinking drugs involved.

Men’s dorms are usually “stinky” so one more odor was likely overlooked,
a woman’s dorm would not likely have tolerated it.

My parents enrolled me in a private high school in 9th grade after spending, as I recall, three days in public school classes.
Three months later, around Christmas time, my mother got a phone call from the office of the public high school. They had noticed that I had missed a large number of classes recently and were calling to see if all was OK.

This sort of thing is why I prefer it when my children join the military. Someone would notice if they died.
At a university, it’s entirely possible to disappear as long as the bills have been paid.
