Thanks for posting that. I remember back in my school days they would have kids announcing the week’s menus on the radio. I don’t know they got picked for that pleasant duty, but that’s the way it was.
Any one of those days looks better than what I have to eat now — low carbs, doncha know? About a month of that and you’d turn in your best pal for a jelly doughnut.
Still, I’m 20 pounds to the good, and the doc says that if I lose another 20 she’ll take me off metformin. So that’s a big, big plus, and you could even say I am now on the downhill side.
Still miss those jelly doughnuts, though.
I was fortunate to have a great aunt as one of the cafeteria cooks, at my elementary.
She was from East TX and one of the best southern cooks, ever.
Our yeast rolls, turkey and dressing and homemade (yes, she made them from scratch) pies, were the envy of the district :)
Heck, even our middle and high school cooks/meals werent that bad, come to think of it. Mostly Grandmas in that kitchen, cooking. :)
The Wookie is to blame for that being taken away from the schoolkids...all the while stuffing her own face with Maine Lobster and Kobe Beef. Washed down with a quart of Stoly.
