Very wise of you.

I always tell friends that I have developed a totally ruthless attitude toward technology over the years. If it makes my life better, I might give it a shot. But I feel no need to have the latest and greatest — just a modern manifestation of keeping up with the Joneses.

I don’t carry a cell phone — although a good friend of mine keeps bugging me to get one just in case I have a car breakdown. Not that I drive much since I retired, but I can’t contest his logic.

Otherwise, I have my desktop computer, and my aging but still quite serviceable Bose CD player in my little home office. That’s about what I need.

I have as little technology as possible, too. My desktop is in the enclosed porch, with the cable directly into that room. I have antenna TV. A good radio with CD, a TV with DVD player. No smart phone. I do bring my cell phone with me when I take an excursion that's more than my daily errands. No air conditioning. I don't bank by mail, shop with Amazon anymore, and pay cash or check whenever possible.

It's too easy to slide into being mentally lazy and removed from reality if technology does things that make life too automatic.

Do we really think technology is used for good? All these devices including internet, cell phones and GPS are used to collect data on you and to eaves drop. look at this shiny new toy in the window you must have!
