People forget how much he was hated back when American Idol debuted. It was the first instance of someone being frank with contestants to the point where he got some serious threats.
Now on America’s Got Talent, he is a lot less honest than he should be, but that show is meant to be a feel-good hugbox anyway.
I watched the first season. The whole show was Kelly Clarkson. The other guy was just there to make it look like she had competition.

If you listen to him, you can detect that Simon is considerably more “conservative” than the rest of hollywood, tho that aint sayin much.
