This is going to be funny as hell when they bring them to California and find out there isn’t any Electricity to charge them with.
This is Monopolistic Behavior for what Amazon is and does.
Oh the horror when they find out the ecological damage caused by those batteries and their manufacture.
Although I love Amazon, I’d be overjoyed if that little prick Bezos somehow wound up in penury.
Key phrase here: “last mile”. Amazon will get places to keep these vans, which will allow them to charge overnight. Then in the morning they will be loaded up with packages from the big truck, and deliver them to the nearby neighborhoods.
They don’t need a lot of range for that. They will be doing a lot of “stop, deliver package, move a few doors down, deliver next package”.
For the most part their pickup looks pretty good. The front “grill”/headlights are a deal breaker for me.
Butt ugly.
I don’t have a problem with Amazon doing this, although I am sure that they factored in the value of their virtue signalling.
Of course Bozos has a controlling interest in the van company.

Regarding pollution, pollution is pollution. The politically correct term “localized pollution” seems to be alarmists moving the goal posts by suggesting that it’s ok if the pollution generated to make power for your electric vehicle is somebody else’s problem, effectively that it’s OK to dump your garbage over your fence into your neighbor’s yard.
Also, electric vehicles with motors that use brushes produce ozone, let’s call it nominal ozone. Couldn’t find any numbers for ozone for Rivian vehicles.
