Never surfed, did used to use the slider boards on the beaches around Dennis as a kid.

I want you to show those white sharks at Cape Cod you are not going to be cowed into doing your surfing at the Chatham Bars Inn.

Get out there and catch those big waves.

An excerpt from an Eastham woman chastising the Cape Cods Times sums up the chances of being bitten by a shark.

Excerpt- "You should stop with the negative articles. A person would have a better chance of having a date with Melania Trump than getting bitten by a shark. Print that."

So, nothing to worry about. -Tom

The problem surfing there is the fish market a block away where the boats unload and the seals or seal bait are plentiful.

I recently saw a snip of a documentary being filmed of walruses in the Antarctic I think. The participants were overwhelmed with sorrow as they watched these dumb animals attempt to climb up the side of a cliff to get to the top and many were falling to their deaths. One chick wondered what was driving them to do that.

The reason was in the video when it showed an aerial shot of the top of the cliff and the beach down below. The beach was completely filled with these walruses who were resting and sunning themselves. The ones climbing the cliff to get to the top were trying to get to a place where there was room for them..........

It was clearly an over population problem.....

If you don't want to surf with white sharks you can go out and see them up close:

Accompanied by a member of Atlantic White Shark Conservancy's team, visitors and locals alike can take a seat aboard a Chatham Bars Inn's vessel and participate in 'Citizens Science' as they add white shark sightings to the Sharktivity App, use a hydrophone to determine if a shark has been tagged, and record observations to be shared with the white shark research team.

Expeditions run twice daily, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from July 3 to October 20 and are weather permitting. As the only tours offered on the Cape that directly benefit white shark research, a portion of the trip fee is tax deductible. Registration for the trip includes participants’ entrance at The Chatham Shark Center. Great White Shark Expeditions are $2500 for up to five passengers.

Tom here- $500 is somewhat expensive for a few hours-but it is better to see the sharks from a boat than from a surf board. -Tom

Or you can take the free boat ride from Nantucket Pier to Toppers at The Wauwinet Inn - did that years ago, I think our wind bill approached $500 though.

This thread reminds me of the girl in the movie “Saturday The 14th” The girl in the tub has a fin come up out of the tub drain. Sharks swim, bears forage, you go in the water or woods, bears and sharks are there. Do you feel lucky? Well do ya? It ain’t fishing for tommycots.

if you took my advice you could have had this invigorating close call experience this Friday morning.
Get that board out and enjoy the waves from Humberto. -Tom

And those black wetsuits New England surfers wear make one look quite yummy!

To a shark.

For those Freepers who will be surfing today be extra cautious. -Tom

September 21, 2019 07:57 AM | By CapeCodToday Staff
From the National Weather Service: With the HIGH RISK of rip currents across the Cape and Nantucket, there is a rip current statement in effect. Associated with the swell from Humberto, just be especially cautious entering the water, more so if no lifeguards are present.

Much appreciated. As a rule, I don’t watch 60 Minutes, but I might in this case.

Thanks for the interesting and informative updates, Capt. Tom!

If 60 minutes uses their film, and the film and photos from Atl. White Shark Conservancy, and spotter pilot Wayne Davis's photos, and film and photos from John King's tagging and filming boat used by Dr. Skomal, they could have some of the best white shark filming available on the planet. - Tom
