“I think its size is on fuzzy edge dividing meteoroids from asteroids. Calling it an asteroid does make it scarier, though.”
I think you should look up the definitions ...
We failed so we need more money.
I thought asteroids were not a problem based on some of the Free Republic scoffers.
...
This particular one wasn’t a problem.
I think we did a really good job seeing it at all before it hit the atmosphere.

>>That seems awfully small for an asteroid. Isnt it really a meteor?
Almost 10’ diameter is small??
You made me go looking for the answer though... Thanks!
Short answer is no.

From the time they spotted it to the time it hit would be about 8 hours at the speed it was traveling. Not enough time to bring Bruce Willis out of retirement.
Nice deceptive headline - the rock exploded in the atmosphere above the Caribbean and not in to it.
I think it’s best classified as a meteorite. Check this out:

“but the way it approached unexpectedly reaffirms the need for more eyes on the sky”
Why? What would we do about it if we say it coming?
All about grant money.
Be a shame if a meteorite or, heaven forbid, an asteroid
“We did die from that, right? We were assured we would.”
Uh, no you weren’t.
As with almost every bureaucracy in this bloated basically totalitarian federal government, NASA’s mostly concerned about getting a bigger bureaucracy so they can get more money.
Yeah, this was a test of their let it hit the ocean system.
//sarc
NASA is doing what they can but it is not a trivial exercise to detect and observe all these asteroids. Hopefully at some point they will get serious about a deflection strategy.
Asteroid...Meteorite...Same dif. Point is, were talking about protection for your big beautiful house and family! Ya wouldnt want anything _bad_ to happen to em, wouldja? NASA just wants to help ya!
Theres that word again
Unexpectedly
I remember it well from the obammie years and his economic record

Yes we were.
Ison, rlenin, yu55.
We most certainly were
LOL
It was prophesied by Paul Begeley, three times, and bpearthwatch, and they’re more reputable than nasa, we were assured so.
*Snerk*
I can’t keep that up.
But yeah, we were told we were going to die.
They focused on objects that weren’t a threat and ignored what was a probability.
Have a good one.
