Marriage isn’t as popular as it once was. In fact, the marriage rate in the U.S. is the lowest it’s been in at least 150 years, reports PBS.
A new study, published in the Journal of Marriage and Family, may have one explanation as to why: There aren’t enough “economically-attractive” men — ones with a good income and a stable job — for single women to marry.
In the study, researchers examined couples in heterosexual marriages from 2008 to 2012 and 2013 to 2017, compiling character profiles (education and income levels) of the husbands. When they analyzed the pool of available men for these economically-attractive traits that demographically-similar single women might look for, there was a shortage of potential matches.
The researchers hypothesized that potential husbands for the single women had an average income nearly 60 percent higher than the actual pool of available men. They were also 30 percent more likely to be employed and 19 percent more likely to have a college degree compared to current bachelors.

This is why high wages ought to be a particular objective of policy, they are essential fertilizer for family formation.
When an attractive young woman stays in school a very long time, gets a PhD and then earns high income:
Is she HELPED by this..?
Is society helped by this..?
KUDOS for her, for sure, but....in fact, no.
Because women are getting preferential hiring regardless of their qualifications and there are not enough good jobs left for the men to fill.

Actually from a leftist perspective, this is probably a positive report for them about how successful they’ve been at destroying traditional heterosexual marriage and the so-yesterday roles of “men” and “women” in society. The relationship debris field and the societal chaos is exactly what they had in mind.

If a really stupid woman fails to have kids, it's sad. Mostly it's not a matter for the greater good of the public, though.
But that is NOT the type of woman generally not having kids:
It's the BEST women, the ones with all the "Make a smart baby"-DNA.

Families are setting aside bank-vaults of money in order to make good and SURE their lineages are blown-up for all eternity.
Also, because of the obesity epidemic, there is a shortage of attractive females to marry.
The twenty-something man still living with his parents won’t find be finding that perfect mate.
