The difference there is, instead of seeking a way to get high, you should just say no, since you, like every non addict, severely underestimates addiction.

The opioid bit grew because of over prescribing pain killers to people, not looking to get high, but seeking to treat a medical problem.

So that’d be like “just saying no” to your surgery.

I get a codone scrip before I go to Việt Nam. The first one 16 years ago because I had not yet figured out what triggered my migraines. Now I take them to a local doctor (American trained guy) who doles them out one at a time to his patients. They have to go back to him each time for each. I do the same thing with antibiotics.

I was prescribed a big fat bottle of vicodin after some surgery. Two years later, I threw out the bottle, full, minus one pill.
Saying no gets more important the harder it is to say it.
