Your words are true. I called the police a few years ago about suspicious activity near some trails in a retail area. After being treated incredibly rudely, I promised myself never to do it again.
As I took him to the area where the stolen merchandise was, he kept yelling at me to “stay 20 feet in front of me sir!”. When we got to the merchandise, he couldn’t have cared less. “Probably stolen” the idiot said to me.

Here in the US, I myself would take it out for a test fire and then throw it away.
Living overseas someplace where the laws are different... I think I'd find a way to just lose it, permanently.
