Police announced on Friday that they had arrested and charged a woman who set an American flag on fire.
The flag was part of a Sept. 11 memorial gesture that hung flags on overpasses along Route 66 in Arlington, not far from the Pentagon, which was attacked on 9/11.
Kayla Caniff, 22, was allegedly caught by an Arlington police officer who noticed the large flag on fire just before midnight on Thursday. She was charged with destruction of property and released a short time later.
Among the 2,977 confirmed deaths by terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, 125 were working at the Pentagon when American flight 77 was intentionally flown into the western side of the building just before 10 am. 64 passengers and crew on the plane, including five hijackers, were also killed.
343 firefighters and 72 law enforcement officers were also killed on 9/11 in New York City, while 40 died when United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after passengers and crew attempted to retake control from the hijackers.

If it were up to me, she would be arrested, tried, convicted and publicly executed... shot by a firing squad.

Will be tossed because free speech. If it was any other flag it’d be hate speech or hate crime.
Only wish she’d have an opportunity to meet Rick Rescorla some time. But too bad, he died saving people.

Firing squad? So wrong. Set her on fire instead.
Works for me. I was suggesting the more “acceptable” sentence. Seriously, if we administered serious consequences to criminal activity, it would stop in a heartbeat (pun intended). Public torture with eventual decapitation would eliminate copy-cat violence.
Giver her two choice. Lock her away for life in protective custody or release her picture, name and actions and then release her into society. Her choice.
She can burn her own flag. Not one owned by others.
That being said, I will even help her burn her own flag... as long as she wraps herself in it first.
The American flag is owned by Americans.
Bring back the public stocks.
After a fair trial and conviction this complete loser would be a candidate for the woodchipper...no?
We fail to admit a great deal of people did indeed cheer 9/11 and think we deserved it.
