'It feels like nowhere is safe': St. Louis children confront a wave of gun violence
NBC ^ | Aug. 28, 2019 | Anita Hassan

Mason Wilson learned through some school friends about the July 19 shooting at a house in central St. Louis, not far from where his grandmother lives. It wasn’t the first shooting Mason, 9, heard about this year, but it was the one he thought about the most.

The boy who was killed, 10-year-old Eddie Hill IV, had been standing on the porch with his father at about 8:30 p.m. when shots were fired from a passing SUV. Eddie, who was so smart, relatives told reporters, that he’d skipped a grade, was hit in the chest.

"Gun violence." Not white nationalist or white police; therefore, it must be the device and not the person or people per the brainwashing mechanisms. Liberals are so desperate and predictable. Sadly, their ilk falls for these definitions.

No, it’s not the guns that are violent. It’s the person who is shooting the gun who’s responsible.

I hate violent guns, but I don’t know of any so I’m fine.

No army and no amount or potency of arms can overcome the cycle of having kids/not getting married/dropping out of school/staying on welfare and the biggie, children who don’t know dad or dad’s in jail or prison.

The gun is their means of destroying each other.

If there were no guns they would kill on the same level but it would be more up close and personal, i.e., stabbing, beating to death, etc.

Complete and utter family erosion brings these neighborhoods to their knees.

Not an inanimate object.

We should never have taught guns how to drive SUVs.

Guns aren’t violent. People are. I’m sick and tired of all these communist propaganda stories in the mass media. Deal with the facts, and if you want to do something then suggest how to change the cause - which is certain human behaviors not inert instruments

Yeah. That is a double trigger : guns and SUVs.

The marvels of creative writing.

Renegade guns must be roaming the streets of St. Louis all by themselves. Like Killer Tomatoes.

I have guns, locked up in my gun safe. I can assure you they are not violent at all. In fact I’ve never met a violent gun, ever

It is very sad that there is so much violence in the black community. It is sad that there are so many shootings and criminal activity by the youth gangs in the black community.

In spite of all the manufactured outrage about police shootings, the biggest threat to black men is another young black man with a gun. The vast majority of black shooting victims are shot by young black men.

But due to political correctness, we aren’t allowed to say things such as what I just mentioned here. They decry gun violence with no reference to who perpetrate these crimes.

Residents blame racially biased policing and a lack of social services.

There may be some truth to that, but that's not the whole problem. Until people in those communities own up to the responsibility for their problems and find a way to redeem family life and culture and embrace civilized values, then they'll continue to mourn innocent victims. It's a damned shame that kids have to grow up in that kind of environment.

Note that one young victim and her parents died not from gunshots, but from multiple puncture wounds.

It’s not ‘gun violence’, it is young-black-man violence but no one seems willing to say that out loud. This is not to say that white people commit no crimes, but the problem that places like St Louis, Chicago, Baltimore, Omaha, etc., etc. face is violence committed by young black males. Black lives don’t seem to matter to them.

I don’t know what the answer is. Certainly the “don’t snitch!” movement isn’t making things any better for Americans, black or white, who happen to find themselves living in the afflicted area.

In Cape Girardeau, MO a 15 year-old girl was killed while out on her front porch last weekend. She had just started high school and had all kinds of plans. But there was some kind of dispute either with her or her family and a young man with an extensive criminal record drove by and shot her and her friend—just because that’s what you do if someone has disrespected you.

The ‘hood’ culture is toxic.

Agreed.

The truth behind the violence is of no matter to them.

Taking away guns is.

And of course keeping blacks down do keep getting their vote

And keeping them full of anger, which gets them nowhere.

If only there was some common factor we could identify...something similar about all these shootings...it’s like it’s right there in front of us...so frustrating...
