On an episode of “Sanford & Son”, back in the early 70’s, Redd Foxes character, Fred is talking to one of his buddies about some neighborhood guys wife who was “so ugly, you could mash her face down in some dough and make gorilla cookies!”
We’ve gone backwards as a society............
Fred used gorilla or worse to describe Esther all the time.
Some of the funniest moments on TV.
Their exchanges would never be tolerated today.
And if anyone had gone to HR and told them what I did I would have been let go.
I watch All In The family and Sanford & Son almost every night.
I can’t believe how Fred made jokes about black people back then. He made jokes about the stereotypical blacks in every episode.
Self deprecating humor.
It’s OK if THEY SAY OR DO IT...
90 percent of the shows in the 60s, 70s and 80s would never be on TV today..one episode of Leave It To Beaver, the Beaver was invited to a little girls birthday party, he was the only boy invited, her father invited him into his den and let him play with his guns..today that would be considered a “Red Flag”
Yes. And, of course, we’ve collectively (and conveniently) forgotten that while promoting the upcoming bout with Smokin’ Joe Frazier, Muhammad Ali said, “am gonna thrilla the gorilla in Manila!”
” Redd Foxes character,”
He told a young lady who was planning to go to college that if God wanted women to go to college he would have given them brains.
