Awwweeee....very sad. Sorry for the handler and the other officers who feel this loss....it’s like a loss of one of their own.
That would be considered abuse if I had done that.
...a review cover up into the circumstances was initiated...
Only cops who love dogs should be assigned K9 duties. This guy apparently didn’t give a rip.
Our K-9 vehicles are outfitted with fail-safe equipment that is meant to generate an alert. At this time, we believe this alert may not have been working, Chavarria said.
According to the article the officer did love this dog. Appears possible the warning signal night not have worked....too soon to be critical until facts are known. I find it hard to believe the officer handler didn’t care.....they tend to have very close relationships with their dogs.
Better hope it’s not one of those jurisdictions where they consider killing a police dog to be worse than killing an unimportant citizen.
But on a more positive note, there is now a job opening for a dog handler in Long Beach.
and far too many cops would have just shot it if was your dog on your front porch, barking, if they had business with you.
“...too soon to be critical until facts are known.”

What innocent explanation is there for leaving his dog in a hot car long enough to die?
We’ll know soon enough..
I can’t think of one either.
Gee wonder what the evidence of that is.... /s
Not likely, but you’re right. He should.
Since a K-9 is treated as a fellow police officer by the law and law enforcement; does this make the handler a cop killer?
I really hope this was some kind of tragic accident and not neglect in any way for the sake of the handler. I personally would never trust technology to warn me my dog was dying in my car. I would either go where my dog could go or simply wouldn’t ‘go there’. At least not more than 5-7 minutes...
