Brown recluse is poisonous enough to kill your cat or dog and give you a bite that may become gangrenous. I cannot imagine why anyone would laugh about that.

One bit my grandmother on the neck and it left what looked like a mini volcano for months. She died of cancer within a year after that. I've always believed it was the spider bit that caused the cancer that killed her.

Great. Why didn't they just sell tickets? Meanwhile the previous attempts to get the spider out could have agitated it. It could have bitten her inner ear. Probably killed her.

Correct. The Brown Recluse(Loxosceles reclusa) is a vicious little thing. Her bite can be very deadly. She's one of just a few spiders whose fangs are strong enough to pierce human and animal skin.
