No.1. Mueller’s team claimed they couldn’t recover anything. But the inspectot general recovered the data very quickly. Likely from the backup server, but I don’t know.
No. 2. Sessions recused himself from all things Russian, so Rosenstein as his deputy appointed special counsel mueller [lower case intentional].
Muller and his team were lying...

that’s not right....they recovered nothing from the phones that were part of Muellers operation.
they have recovered a good portion of the text from page an strzork. But there are lapses like right after the election
Yes, I know this. My question is what authority did Rosenstein have to assign the SC? Sessions is his boss.
I got the impression that Sessions was blind sided by this. How could that happen? A subordinate decides for a SC?
So, it leads me back to the original question. Did Sessions think of it and authorize it, without telling the president?
All, information on this, indicates that Sessions found out about the SC about the same time Trump did. Sessions offered his resignation at the time, Trump refused it, but told Sessions, my presidency is "blanked now."
How could Sessions be so spineless and naïve? How in the heck did this happen to begin with is the question?
Mueller didn’t want to recover it, and probably made no effort to do so.
