I’m of two minds of this
Police-caused deaths are never good. But I doubt it was anyone’s intent to harm Eric Garner. Garner has been arrested dozens of times for petty crimes. He was again selling individual cigarettes, which is against NY State/City law. Should police just ignore small crimes like that? If he is to be arrested again, how else to take a 350 lb man into custody?
yes police should ignore petty unrealistic laws such as jay walking etc. As a matter of fact, park in front of a police station and watch how many LE jay walk.
When one walks on an icy sidewalk it must be recognized that he can slip, fall backward and wind up on a respirator for 30 years due to a massive brain injury. When one resists arrest he must recognize that he can suffer a fatal heart attack or stroke.
I have no sympathy for anyone injured,or killed, while resisting arrest...regardless of how "unfair" that arrest might be.
How about just a ticket for small crimes like that.
They should have issued him an appearance ticket.
Wrestling a 350 pound man to the ground in a choke hold for selling loose cigarettes seems like a serious lack of good judgement.
And all the cops with him should be fired too.
