Trump drafting executive order to force social media to show content he likes

Keeping its focus on what really matters, the Trump White House is currently circulating drafts of an executive order that would address "anti-conservative bias" in social media.

The exact contents of the executive order are unclear, but it is definitely not going to be good. One unnamed official who Politico spoke to offered the conservative rationale for the move: "If the internet is going to be presented as this egalitarian platform and most of Twitter is liberal cesspools of venom, then at least the president wants some fairness in the system."

Of course, there is no anti-conservative bias in social media. That's a right-wing trope that has been repeatedly debunked. Yes, certain conservative figures have been banned from leading social media platforms — but not for being conservative. They've been banned for unleashing racist mobs on other Twitter users and spreading dangerous conspiracy theories all over Facebook. That's not banning someone for their views, conservative or otherwise; it's banning them for their egregious behavior.

One of the most dangerous conspiracy theories being circulated by conservatives is that liberals are leftists spouting socialist propaganda, which they try to back up by showing recordings of liberal leftists spouting socialist propaganda. Since many of them are racial minorities, this kind of thing is banned hate speech.

Turtle tweeting videos of people crowding around his front door and threatening him and his family is a dangerous conspiracy theory that causes twitter mobs to crowd around people on twitter.

OK so when the social media sites ignore his Executive Order then what? It’s not a law so they can’t be prosecuted. He can’t order them shut down. What will Trump do? Refuse to use Twitter or Facebook?

Initiate anti-Trust proceedings, and strip them of Platform privileges, making them civilly liable for content like any other publisher.

The government is so big these days it is inevitable that Twitter and Facebook have some sort of government contract, loan, grant in there somewhere, particularly if you include any affiliates, business partners, members of the board of directors and/or major shareholders and/or senior executives.

That is the wedge, if Trump is smart enough to find it and use it.

Strip them of platform privileges? The government doesn't own the platforms.

I suppose you believe that it wasn't the government's anti-trust laws that took down the monopoly that Microsoft once was.

I suppose you don't believe they took down AT&T for being a monopoly either.........

I suppose you don't believe there was a decision to apply laws to these tech companies as platforms rather than publishers. A decision that allowed these punks to have the pretense of neutrality (and we know now they aren't).

If so, you really need to come to grips with the consequences of your beliefs.

“They’ve been banned for unleashing racist mobs on other Twitter users and spreading dangerous conspiracy theories all over Facebook. That’s not banning someone for their views, conservative or otherwise; it’s banning them for their egregious behavior.”

This is exactly the thinking and sophistry used by Nazi Germany, the USSR, Red China, and the EU when suppressing political ideas.

To read the enemy’s thinking. That’s why... We accomplish nothing by living in an echo chamber where we only say the things we believe and congratulate each other. It’s a war, and being inside our enemy’s mind is job one.

It's called parody. It's a recognized rhetorical device to show the absurdity of the opposing party's position.

It helps to have a sense of humor when reading so that you can distinguish what is factual assertion, what is sarcasm, what is parody, what is a downright falsehood, etc.

Yup. Hey, Libs, putting government in charge of everything actually DOES have a downside after all!

Trump could close all executive branch FB and Twitter pages. Delegitimize them. NO DOD, DOJ, FBI, USDA, CIA, DOE, USFS, NASA, etc.
Google is working on projects for red China, that’s another way to sodomize them.
And no money to be spent for IT services with a company that censors conservative thinking and speech.

He can hurt them bad if he wants.
