But that presupposes that there should be equal numbers of men and women. This whole thing stinks of “gender studies” crap.

It does NOT presuppose that there should be equal numbers of males and females.

Figures going back centuries in societies that kept records --- whether through baptismal records documenting infants, or citywide effort like the London Bills of Mortality going back to the 1600's --- show that male births tend to outpace female births by a bit (~106:100). This means that at birth on average, there are 106 males for every 100 females.

That tends to even out by adolescence, since males have a higher death rate at every age. Male babies, boys and men are at a higher risk of dying than women not only due to sex differentials in genetic and congenital abnormalities and various diseases, but also due to higher risk from external causes (accidents, injuries, violence, etc.)

The huge preponderance of male deaths from war has to be factored in (annihilating males at their most fertile age, 18-35), crop failure, floods and famine, mass die-offs due to bacterial or viral epidemics, etc.

Bottom line, despite higher male death rates from almost every reportable cause, there are places where males still outnumber females, and it's getting more lopsided. A Indian government survey conducted recently in 132 villages in Uttarkashi revealed that none of the 216 children born in those villages over three months were girls. That's 216 male births, zero female births.

Pretty obvious.
